Take the story of Mataya, a young calf who was separated from his mother during a herd’s raid on crops in his village. Severely injured by a machete and found alone, Mataya was rescued and urgently cared for at the Lusaka Elephant Nursery.

At just two months old, he was critically weak and dehydrated, but with intensive care, including electrolytes and nourishing milk, he began to recover. Named after his village, Mataya’s journey underscores the vital need for ongoing support and care for orphaned elephants. Your adoption helps fund their long-term care and conservation, ensuring a hopeful future for these vulnerable animals.

Chikumbi, a young elephant left behind in the Rufu

Chikumbi, a young elephant left behind in the Rufunsa region, was found dehydrated and malnourished but showed remarkable independence. Rescued by Game Rangers International, she received immediate care and stabilizing treatment.

Now, a year later, Chikumbi has thrived at the Elephant Nursery. Despite her rough start, she has become well-integrated with her surrogate herd, forming close bonds and displaying adventurous behavior. Her progress, both physically and emotionally, is encouraging, reflecting her successful recovery and adaptation.
